An outstanding experience which allows young children the opportunity to discuss story through the media of language, drama, music and movement. The sessions are very well planned and excellent use is made of resources. Follow up sheets allow parents/carers to develop the Drama Llama experience at home.
- Dr Graham McFarlane, former OFSTED Inspector for Primary Schools.
We offer regular or one-off bookings for nurseries, preschools and reception year at schools. Our sessions are also very popular with Outreach programmes at Children’s centres
We have a wide selection of stories covering a variety of topics pertinent to children’s experiences and nursery/school themes. We are also happy to create bespoke sessions to tie in with particular projects being explored at your setting.
Every Drama Llamas session uses inspiring music (tailored to the session) and a variety of fun props and sensory items to appeal to all the different types of learners.
Drama Llamas is not about performance. Drama Llamas is about using drama (and story) as a tool for learning. Each and every session is designed with a learning experience in mind. Within a story about a friendly spider, or a magical balloon ride, for example, we may explore colours, numeracy, scale, opposites, road safety etc. We provide handouts for nursery staff which explains the thinking behind the story, links our sessions to the Early Years Foundation Stage, and gives ideas for further development after we’ve left.
Sessions are designed for different age groups as follows:
- 2-3 Years
- 3-5 years
- Reception
Or we can offer a more mixed age groups if required. Group size is usually between 15 and 20 children.
Our sessions work well as regular weekly bookings or as one-offs in conjunction with National Indicatives such as National Story telling week or Early Talk awareness weeks etc.
Discounts are available for block bookings. Please contact us for more information

The Early Years Foundation Stage is made up of the main principles which are used to guide the work of all early years practitioners. These principles are grouped into four themes:
A Unique Child - every child is a competent learner from birth who can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured.
Positive Relationships - children learn to be strong and independent from a base of loving and secure relationships with parents and/or a key person.
Enabling Environments - the environment plays a key role in supporting and extending children’s development and learning.
Learning and Development - children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates; all areas of Learning and Development are equally important and inter-connected.
How does Drama Llamas work with the EYFS?
The main concepts of the Learning and Development theme of the Early Years Foundation Stage are learning, playing and interacting. They are also the main themes that permeate through the Drama Llamas experience.
How do Drama Llamas sessions aid learning, playing and interacting?
Play is an imperative part of a young child’s development; it is how they make sense of the world and their role within it. Drama Llamas provides well-planned sessions that help to support young children’s learning, through a fun-filled experience that offers a series of physical and emotional challenges within a safe and secure environment.
In recognising that all children’s play is changeable by nature, Drama Llamas sessions are structured to incorporate a variety of behaviours; sometimes the activities will be interactive and adult-led whilst at other times they will be free and expressive. There are also opportunities to reflect and discuss, and to be quiet and still. Each child will have the opportunity to learn in their own way at their own pace.
This is the best activity I do with my 3 ½ year old each week. Freddie talks of Drama Llamas throughout the week and the notes that you are passed at the end of each class make you feel like super mum – as you can develop the discussion on what has been going on throughout the class! Thank you!
